I've found that the staff tend to expect too much from their patients (such as carrying a scale around and weighing everything before you eat it), and they are not at all lenient with CDA guidelines which are, in fact, guidelines. I believe this may be because they want us to be healthier, but it can be inconvenient for ADP funding renewals if your A1C is 9 or above, because there is no leeway.

Being the only diabetic clinic available in Thunder Bay, I have had diabetes for almost 12 years and I haven't felt "supported" by the diabetic clinic for at least 5. I am constantly having my appointments cancelled, which of course are needed to maintain funding for the ADP insulin pump supplies grant. I would really appreciate higher-tech options for appointments. The educators have suggested phone appointments many times before and I've taken them up on their offers only to call and they aren't available until a minimum of half an hour later, when I've already had to be back at work. I understand we don't pay to be clients, but you work in the health care field, there has to be some leeway and compassion coming from those working under the title.

This may be because of lack of staff, and everyone's entitled to sick days. It can be inconvenient though.

I was able to control my glucose level after a couple of visits with the dietician and nurse and were very informative as well !!!

All in all this is the only diabetes health program in Thunder Bay and not everything is bad. The staff are professional and mostly friendly. But they will kick you into shape and if you don't swim you will sink.

Staff sometimes call in sick the day of the appointment. I have had a few bad nurses, and a few good ones. Hit or a miss.
